 2023 Preview

Victory Christian completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Victory Christian just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region six with a 2-4 region record.

Victory Christian was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Lions want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.8 points a game.

Since 2010, Victory Christian has gone a combined 44-86. Their 33.8% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 23 seasons, Victory Christian has managed to compile a record of 81-150. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 1A and 322nd in the AHSAA.

The Lions will be under the direction of new head football coach Terry Etheredge as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Etheredge has several years leading football teams at the junior high level and below, but most of his coaching experience lies with basketball.

The Lions will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season.

The Lions open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Woodland on Friday, August 25 at Sewell Field. Last year the Woodland Bobcats finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 2A region four. The Bobcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Wadley by a score of 49-0.

Victory Christian and Woodland have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Lions have a 1-5-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2022 with Victory Christian winning by a score of 31-6.
